Puff Fitness from small beginnings to award winning Postnatal Recovery Programme.
Puff Fitness started up in September 2013 with the focus being to offer mobile personal training to postnatal ladies. I was armed with my Registered Nursing background, qualification as Level 3 Fitness instructor, experience working with Active mums and certificates in postnatal fitness through Australia. I was off in a car around the suburbs in Wellington visiting new mothers in their homes.
In 2014 I started up postnatal classes at Island bay community centre which closely followed with classes in Miramar, Khandallah, and Seatoun. I continued to do mobile personal training.
This is how things stayed for around 2 years. During this time I kept on learning and my knowledge and experience in postnatal fitness grew. I attend many courses conferences on pelvic floor, postnatal rehabilitation and flew to Melbourne to learn more about pregnancy exercise.
I qualified as a Gymstick muscle instructor in 2014. I was so excited by this product that I started up classes in Island Bay, Ngaio and ASB Sports centre. I realised that my Gymstick classes were pulling me away form growing my postnatal classes and eventually stopped running these.
In 2015 I went deeper again with my love of postnatal fitness and qualified in Advanced CPD in Modern Postnatal assessment, core restore and functional exercise programming through Burrell education in the UK. This training was like gold as it allowed me to go deeper and really get results happening for my clients. I realised that I could easily incorporate my love of the Gymstick product into my programmes.
In May 2015 I started working with Habit in Wellington. All of my suburban classes were relocated at this time to Habit Evans Bay.
In 2016 I trained at a deeper level in Pregnancy Exercise and Birth preparation programming through Burrell Education in the UK.
At the start of this year I launched an offering of my postnatal and pregnancy classes in the Wellington CBD at Habit Majestic. These have been well received. My pregnancy exercise classes have been especially popular due the deeper level of specialist content and improved accessibility for the corporate pregnant women.
Over this last year I have been developing an online global offering for pregnant and postnatal women via my website. All the ladies in my live classes can now access my online programming when they come into my classes in Wellington.
Earlier this year I was approached to apply for the NZ Exercise Industry Awards for Programme Excellence for my Postnatal Recovery programme. It took quite a bit of hard work and late nights to get this ready.
On November 25th 2017 Puff Fitness was awarded Programme Excellence for my Postnatal Recovery programme in Auckland at a black tie event.
Since receiving this award I have been very quickly approached by media, other trainers, gyms throughout the country.
At the time of writing this I am looking at licensing my product and getting it out amongst New Zealand and off shore.
The tides are turning. I will move in the year ahead from taking classes to teaching others to take them for me.
I will spend time doing what I am good at and that is creating award winning programmes. I hope to create these for my pregnancy class and move on to create exercise during menopause and post hysterectomy exercise.
I am very much looking forward to 2018. I will keep you posted.
